Samantha Learns a Lesson

Samantha has just started school at Miss Crampton’s Academy, a private school for proper young ladies, when she finds out that there will be a speaking contest about “Progress in America” coming soon. Samantha badly wants to win the gold medal, but she’s not sure what she wants to speak about.

When Samantha finds out that the children at school call Nellie names because she can’t read, Samantha creates her own school just for Nellie, called the Mount Better School. Located in the tower room of Grandmary’s extravagant home, Samantha starts to teach Nellie everything she knows. Soon things reverse and Nellie teaches Samantha important lessons about progress and life in the city. These lessons soon inspire Samantha to speak the truth about progress.
