Meet Cécile Rey, a confident, outgoing and curious girl living in New Orleans in 1853. Cécile comes from a highly regarded and well-to-do family of free people of color and loves to perform. She dislikes her school lessons at home and would rather attend school with others. While at her voice lesson with her teacher, Mademoiselle Océane, Cécile meets Marie-Grace, a new girl who has just moved to New Orleans with her father.

Meet Marie-Grace, a shy, kind and helpful girl who has just arrived in New Orleans with her father. Having left the city after her mother and younger brother died, Marie-Grace cannot believe how lively the city is. Will she ever feel like she belongs? When she meets Mademoiselle Océane, a talented opera singer and teacher, she meets Cécile Rey, one of her students.

Could Cécile and Marie-Grace become friends, even though they come from two different worlds?
