Meet Addy
Meet Addy Walker, a strong, resilient and courageous girl whose family is planning to escape from slavery from Master Steven’s plantation in North Carolina in 1864. Addy’s world is turned upside down when Master Stevens decides to sell her Poppa and brother, Sam. Unsure of what to do next, Addy and her Momma decide to escape for themselves.
With the help of Uncle Solomon and Auntie Lula, Addy and her Momma are given food and disguises before they start their journey to Philadelphia. When it’s decided that Addy’s baby sister, Esther won’t be escaping with them, Addy is heartbroken. Her only hope is that her family will be together again in their new home in Philadelphia once the Civil War is over.
