Julie knew the Christmas and New Years’ holidays would be different this year but didn’t know how difficult it would be. When her older sister, Tracey, decides that she doesn't want to go to Dad’s house for Christmas, Julie starts to feel that her family is falling apart.

She finds comfort spending time with her best friend, Ivy Ling and her family. The Ling’s are getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year and have invited Julie’s entire family to the party. Julie starts to worry about how her family will get along. Will it be just like Christmas? Or will this be a new beginning for her family?
