Changes for Kaya

Things are starting to go back to normal. Speaking Rain has finally returned to her family, but one thing is missing: her horse Steps High. When word comes that a herd of Nimíipuu, or Nez Perce, horses are running in the mountain, Kaya hopes Steps High might be one of them.

When Kaya joins a hunting group into the mountains, she is excited and hopeful as she finally has a chance to search for Steps High. But her blind sister, Speaking Rain, is worried about the smell of smoke in the air--a mountain fire. As Kaya searches for Steps High, she is faced with a greater fear. What will Kaya do?
