Changes for Addy

It’s been more than a year since Addy and her Momma left Master Steve’s plantation. Now living as freed people in Philadelphia, Addy and Momma have reunited with Poppa and Sam. But Addy is starting to give up hope that her entire family will be together. There has been no word on her baby sister Esther, Auntie Lula and Uncle Solomon. Suddenly, Poppa decides to travel back to North Carolina in search of them.

When Addy gets word that Esther, Auntie Lula and Uncle Solomon are on their way, Addy starts searching for them. Addy’s search is mixed with joy and sadness. She has found her sister Esther and Auntie Lula, but Uncle Solomon has passed away. Soon Auntie Lula passes away too.

Addy is asked to read the Emancipation Proclamation at church, but questions the words on freedom. But Momma reminds her that their family will always be together, regardless, as long as they keep their love in their heart.
