Meeting Janet Beeler Shaw

A message from Blake Changnon, founder, president, and CEO of The Changnon Family Museum of Toys and Collectibles:

Another Childhood Dream Comes True!

This past weekend, while at a friend's wedding, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and having an in-depth conversation with the American Girl author Janet Beeler Shaw at her home in North Carolina.

Janet is the author of the stories for the beloved American Girl Historical Characters Kirsten and Kaya.

As I mentioned when I met Valerie Tripp earlier this year, when I read the American Girl books as a child, I was transported to a world of wonder where characters leaped off the pages, and adventures came alive. And Janet's stories taught me and have continued to teach me invaluable life lessons I hold today.

Meeting the author whose stories helped shape my childhood was a surreal and heartwarming experience. We delved into Janet's creative process, discussing the intricate research and writing that went into her work when writing for Pleasant Company and American Girl, as well as her relationship with its founder, Pleasant Rowland.

But the most magical part was visiting the charming cottage where she penned those unforgettable stories. As the icing on the cake, she graciously signed my beloved Kristen and Kaya books, as well as my childhood Kirsten and Kaya dolls that she brought to life with her words. It was a dream come true!

Moments like this continue to remind me of the profound impact literature can have on one's life. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world, Janet!
